As his mother has gone shopping William swaps his dad for two goldfish with his friend Randall. When his mother finds out about the exchange she sends William along with his little sister Marge to get their father back. The journey quickly turns into an odyssey as William meets his eccentric friends the gravity-defying Parker sisters the athletic Baseball Charlie and the ever so lovely Stephanie.
