In 16th century England young tutor and writer William Shakespeare meets Agnes and they fall in love. They have three children two daughters - Susanna and Judith - and a son - Hamnet. Shakespeare's career as a playwright starts to take off but this tests his relationship with Agnes and his children. Then tragedy strikes.
